Biography
Dr. Benjamins is a board-certified specialist in pediatrics and adolescent medicine with a focus on providing care to youth from underserved communities. At Wayne State University, she practices at Wayne Pediatrics, a non-profit medical home located in downtown Detroit, dedicated to serving young people in urban settings. Dr. Benjamins' approach to care emphasizes addressing both the medical needs and the social determinants of health, along with the complex psycho-social challenges that many adolescents, especially those who have experienced trauma.
As both an educator and clinician, Dr. Benjamins strives to empower adolescents and young adults to make informed, healthy choices, supporting their overall well-being and long-term success.

Research Interests
Dr. Benjamins’ research focuses on improving health outcomes for youth involved in the juvenile justice system and those living with HIV. She has a particular interest in interventions that enhance sexual and reproductive health, including contraception and sexually transmitted infections. Her work also explores the impact of trauma and mental health needs among underserved adolescent populations. Through her research, Dr. Benjamins aims to improve access to healthcare and address health disparities in these vulnerable groups, while evaluating the effectiveness of interventions in real-world settings.
